How to Clean Camping Mattress

When you are traveling outside of your home and spend the night under the open sky, you just need a sleeping mat. A sleeping mat will give you ultimate comfort wherever you try to a sleepover. It will protect you from night insects, give warmth, and a relaxed ambiance.

Camping Mattress

A mattress is specially designed to use outside of a home in the time of camping. You can carry it anywhere because of its lightweight. You can easily put it into your bag by folding it or rolling it. Camping mattress seems so practical.

Camping mattress is necessary because it is small, easy to carry, can be rolled and packed up. Moreover, you can have a sound sleepover because it seems comfortable and protective.

Why People Use Camping Mattress?

Mainly, camping mattress is used when you don’t have your comfy bed with you and to avoid uncomfortable sleeping in a random place. It protects you from insects, cold and dirt. You can also use it in a tent.

There are different kinds of mattresses you can see in the market. Even you can cover yourself through an attached covering system of another type of mattress. The variety of camping mattress depends on the place where you are going to use it.

Like the mattresses which are used in mountain area might differ from the mattresses which are used in hilly areas or forests. Though eventually, the quality remains the same, you might have to find a difference in their designs.

Effective Ways on How to Clean Camping Mattress

Camping mattress is usually neither so expensive nor so cheap. Whatever we buy, we tend to take care of this. In the case of using a camping mattress, it can easily get dirty. Through regular cleaning, we can access the long utilization of camping mattresses.

Routine Cleaning

Firstly, whenever you use the camping mattress, you can clean it in the meantime after using it. If this is not possible, at least you should clean it once in a month, or even if that seems difficult for you, you can clean it every season.

If you see any mold building up on the air mattress, you should clean the mattress as soon as possible.

Use Water and Soap

Firstly, take a few drops of soap into a pot. The soap should be mild and pour some water into the pot. Use a napkin to take the mixed soapy water and scrub the mattress through that napkin. Scrub hard where stains are noticed. Leave the mattress for air drying.

Wipe The Pump

Take some mild detergent and cloth on a pump to clean air mattress. Wipe the mattress and leave it for dry naturally. Try not to leave the pump in a dusty area rather than put it or store it into a box or container.

Baking Soda for Removing Odor

Put soda onto the mattress to remove the scent. You don’t have to use more baking soda. You can leave the soda for a few minutes, and after that, you can clean it by a vacuum cleaner. Baking soda also helps to remove strains sometimes.

Remove Mold & Mildew

Apply sunlight

To keep your mattress outside at least once in a month during a sunny day so that the sunlight will dry out the moisture on the mattress and also kill the possibility of growing up any bacteria or harmful creatures. Sunlight also removes the odor of your mattress.

Apply Vinegar & Water

You have to put some vinegar and water and mix it proportionately. You can take white vinegar (1 cup) and water (1 cup) as well. Take a sponge and put it into the mixture. After that, gently scrub on the mattress, clean it with water, and leave the mattress for drying.

Apply The Mixture of Isopropyl Alcohol & Water

In a bucket, create a mix of the following alcohol and water. Make sure the water is warm. Take this liquid mixture on a sponge and use it on the mattress. Gently rub on the mattress. And after that, rinse the mattress with water and leave it for drying.

Some Maintenance for Camping Mattress

Auto Deflating

For deflating, you have to pull the button or twist it. It is prohibited not to jump on the mattress in the time of the deflating process. Besides, you cannot hit or pressurize also. If you do that, it can damage the mattress. The thinner mattresses, you can store them by folding in half to get the air out.

Folding

In the time of folding, keep your plug of mattress open so that the air can get out smoothly. When the air gets out totally, you can layout it in a flat position, fold it until it gets thin rectangle-shaped. Then roll it from the opposite side so that you can put it into your sleeping bag.

Protectant Cover

Covering your mattress will give you a long-lasting scope of usage. It also keeps your camping mattress safe from bugs and mold. You can use vinyl zip to protect your mattress. You can use a zip when you don’t need to use it and remove it when you need it.

Why You Need to Clean Your Camping Mattress

The first and foremost aim is that you need to clean your sleeping mattress to get more chances to use it. You can get rid of any dust, odor, and stains.

Sometimes you feel mold in the mattress that you are using. Most people throw it and invest in the new one. You can easily clean the old one by following the above rules.

  • Before putting your camping mattress in place, check the place is sharp object free. For example, pens, pin, etc.
  • While cleaning your camping mattress with isopropyl alcohol, you must wear rubber gloves.
  • You should also inspect your area where you are going to settle down your mattress. You should remove cleanly every single rocks or stone so that it cannot harm your mattress.
  • Keep your camping mattress clean even if there are any small rocks or sand particles on it. So, your bed will remain unharmed.
  • Always carry a patch kit so that you can take care your mattress
  • Keep your mattress dry when you are about to put it into your bag. Otherwise, it will produce a bad smell that is harmful to the human body. And even it will provide harmful bacteria also.
  • Before storing, make sure that you unpacked your mattress and cleaned it again.
  • Try to use damp cloth while washing your camping mattress
  • You should store the mattress in the place with a cold temperature and dark place. You can save it under the bed, couch, keep it beside the cupboard, etc.
  • While storing the mattress, keep the valve of the mattress open so that it can dry out the moisture from the mattress.
  • If you don’t distend the mattress thoroughly, your bed might get harmed like the foam inside it get crushed.

When Do You Need to Clean Your Camping Mattress?

We usually use camping mattresses in the time of traveling, and we sometimes have rough use when we go for any adventure tour. For this kind of trip, you need to apply deep clean to your mattress after every trip. You may maintain a light cleaning process in the day you are traveling with a damp cloth.

In the time of deep cleaning, you might need the vacuum cleaner, so that you can easily get rid of pets’ hair or any animal hair. You also might need some hard chemicals to remove strong stains from your mattress.

So, you can clean in two times, such as during the trip and after the trip. During the journey, you need to be careful about using it as you have to maintain the tips mentioned above. After the trip, you can go with a lengthy procedure of cleaning your mattress.
